Unit Information

The Royal Marine Light Infantry formed part of the Royal Naval Division, a division formed very quickly at the start of the war and included pre-war reservists and other naval staff. It fought from the very beginning to the very end of the war from Antwerp to Gallipoli to France and Flanders. It was always very proud to maintain it's naval connections and was the bane of it's Army commanders.

Information

SUNKEN ROAD CEMETERY, BOISLEUX-ST. MARC, Pas de Calais, France. This cemetery is by a casualty clearing station, from the 27 th Sept to 1 st Oct Sjt Trusler's Bde was part of the Battle of the Canal du Nord (3 rd phase of the Battle of the Hindenburg Line). It is likely that the action that resulted in his death was also the events which led to the award of the bar to his MM, the bar was gazetted in early 1919 (11/2/19). The London Gazette does not carry the full citation for the Military Medal, this information may be held in the war diary for the unit.
