Raised in August 1914 in Winchester. Both remained in the UK throughout the war. If he had remained with his original battalion Greenup would have stayed in the UK.

2 nd Lt Greenup was attached to the 1st Battalion which was formed in Colchester 1914 and formed part of the 11th Brigade, 4 th Division.

Of the many actions the 4 th Division took part the notable one in this instance is The First Battle Of Passchendaele ( fifth phase of the Third Battle of Ypres), 12/10/17. 2 nd Lt Greenup died on 13/10/17 at this point one can surmise that he may have been involved in this action as the cemetery he is buried in is on the slopes of the Passchendaele ridge
